If go to a new tab for a while and then back to a previous tab, the fonts will have reset to a system default font like arial and then after a second flash back to the linked font. It doesn't happen unless the tab has been inactive for a while. This is new with chrome 32. Maybe a memory or caching issue. Since Opera made the switch to Webkit there's hardly any difference, without all the annoying UI changes. Google is starting to override all the OS defaults for the sake of pushing their own platform.
