Stable Channel Update for Chrome OS

The Stable channel has been updated to 31.0.1650.61 (Platform version: 4731.73.0) for all Chrome OS devices except Acer C7, the HP Chromebook 11 and the HP Pavilion Chromebook. This build contains a number of bug fixes, security updates and feature enhancements.

Edited 5:06pm 11/21/2013: The HP Chromebook 11 has now been updated to version 31.0.1650.62 (platform version: 4731.75.0).

Systems will be receiving updates over the next several days.

Some highlights of these changes are:
  • You can now put the Shelf on the bottom, left, and right side
  • The launcher icon, app icons and status tray got an overhaul to improve touchability
  • We moved the launcher icon to the bottom left so it keeps a constant position
  • Your profile picture preference is now synced if you use a Chrome OS avatar or Google+ profile picture
  • We redesigned the look and feel of the help experience to make it visually rich and interactive
  • Enabled initial support for USB-based Braille displays
  • Updated design for Feedback page
  • Translate related settings have been integrated into the languages options

Security fixes and rewards:

Congratulations to Pinkie Pie, for reclaiming his title with another impressive exploit!
  • [Ka-po-po-po-pow!!! $50,000*] [319117] [319125] Critical CVE-2013-6632: Multiple memory corruption issues. Credit to Pinkie Pie.
* This reward was co-sponsored by the HP Zero Day Initiative as part of Mobile Pwn2Own 2013.

If you find new issues, please let us know by visiting our forum or filing a bug. Interested in switching channels? Find out how. You can submit feedback using ‘Report an issue...’ in the Chrome menu (3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner of the browser).

What is the reason for the exceptions? Will they get it later or?

I don't know about any but this is really starting to get on my nerve. Why the exceptions indeed? I would feel better as to knowing why my Acer C7 will not get this update now? This isn't the first time either. It seems with each stable release my Acer C7 takes relatively forever to get it.

Look, I understand that sometimes there are minor delays in updates regarding certain bugs on certain hardware, but my HP Pavilion Chromebook is still on Chrome OS version 29.0.1547.74. We are now two major releases since then and no updates.

This is starting to get a little frustrating. If you want my opinion, either release the update for all devices or none of them, especially if devices that are getting updated include the very first Chromebook to be released.

Please expedite the process of getting my Chromebook updated. I love Chrome OS very much and don't want to abandon it, but I don't want to be abandoned by Chrome OS either.

For just a little more than the price of most Chromebooks, I could get a Microsoft Surface. With that, I know my device will be updated.

Please don't make me reconsider the Chrome OS platform. It is too useful. Please, please, please.....update us on the platforms that have been left behind!

Acer C720 now on latest update. Thanks!

I was hoping the Chrome OS team wouldn't start fragmenting OS updates but I guess not. HP 14 Chromebook gets no update (or delayed update) = lame.

Any news for HP Chromebook 14?

A few bugs to report:

The new "Report an issue..." design may not work after an update from R31 to R32. Powerwash or Chrome OS recovery should fix this.

The image editor in File Manager is severely broken; cursor disappears for the Crop tool, and the brightness/contrast sliders do not work.

Looks like I am now getting the update! Huzzah...hooray...what is a good word to explain my level of being content?

Either way...YAY!!!
