I just wondering, why was about:labs changed to about:flags? To me the latter sounds like something other than experimental features.

I can't wait for more labs er...I mean flags to show up in the beta channel. I want Tabbed Settings!

"about:labs moved to about:flags"

This was the most stupid idea ever... yeah... testing new experimental features surly sounds good with "Flags" it even nicely even associate... Umm... No it isn't =_=

Also this build contains a new annoying bug: Issue 60170: unable to scroll the pdf

- said...

The New Tab Page keeps losing the Bookmarks Bar every now and then, and I have to double-CTRL-SHIFT-B to bring it back on. Random; does not happen every time I open a new tab.

marcsalvat said...

can't scroll pdf!

other than that looks good

slipstream said...

@-

Do you have Instant search enabled in Chrome?
If yes then you are most likely stumbling upon this known bug: Issue 59720: Bookmarks bar disappears from NTP after Instant search

Navjot said...

yeah that pdf bug is really annoying. Now I need to find another pdf viewer to use until this is fixed.

Avinash Agrawal said...

With new tab page cleaned up and webstore showing up, this seems all set for Chrome web store launch

slipstream said...

@Navjot

Or you can install even more frequently updated Canary build, it doesn't have this bug.

(also pdf.dll from current 8.0.560.0 canary build seems works fine with 8.0.552.11 dev)

Cougar Abogado said...

@Slipstream. Thanks a lot for your input on the pdf problem. Do your pdfs freeze completely?

I appreciate the canary option, and I am really annoyed to have to go to a different browser just to open a pdf, which I do almost ad naseum (boo-hoo, I guess). Maybe I'll just live in canary as my default, until the bug is fixed.

By the looks of it, there're only like three stars for the bug. So please, people, if you liike the built-in pdf viewer, do us all a favor and star the issue.

http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=60170

Finally, has anyone else noticed that there was a cool little preview page pane that would popup next to the scroll bar upon scrolling that has been taken away? Did it get tossed? (I'm failing to see it in canary or dev, recently.) I hope to see it again soon.

Kurtextrem said...

Holy crap! I have to use a password phrase, i haven't enabled it o.ö

Kurtextrem said...

P.S: You can use this extension for surfing to about:flags easily :D https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/edgpcclhcoddeolfooakmbnidbglkifd

I've noticed about:labs had been about:flags in the dev channel update before a few of days

@Emiya: In computer terminology, a flag is a switch. These on/off switches are intended only for geeks who can happily accept that they ruin your Google Chrome install if enabling. I suspect Google did this to make them less "approachable" as "fun features". While they can be fun, they can also be "dangerous".

Giaco said...

When I open Chrome with "--enable-default-apps" I don't see any Web Apps (I click on update button and restarting Chrome).

Why "Flags"? This is stupid.

To show Bookmarks Bar i have to press CTRL+SHIFT+B but CTRL+SHIFT in windows changing my language, this is very inconvenient.

Kristian said...

Having the same issue as Giaco with Web Apps. Does anyone have them working?

molumen said...

Just installed this version, and after a system restart I lost all the extensions. :(

Curt Troutwine said...

noticed that I can disable syncing... when I hit "Stop syncing this account" it prompts me to confirm... I confirm.. thats it... nothing, still showing as synced and still allowing me to customize my sync options...

oh, and about:labs to about:flags .. could someone explain this logic? (I know the relation of "flags" to these on/off options... But "labs" still seams more appropriate in relation to google beta features"

Jester said...

This does not work at all on my 32-bit WinXP SP3. It just crashes on startup and askes if I want to restart. Restarting just ends up in another crash?

Mixa said...

crash crash crash!

Cakalaky said...

Everytime I open Chrome, it crashes. Win 7 Pro 64Bit. 8.0.552.11

Alexei said...

Can't do anything in this version - it crashes about 10 seconds after fresh (no tabs open) start.

Jope said...

Worked ok for a little while, and it's now crashing at every restart... :(

Matt Andreko said...

Yup, sadly I'm crashing on every restart now too :(

Jason said...

I agree with the crashing folks here, on Ubuntu in my case. Crashes seconds after startup no matter what I do. Reverted to beta channel, is working (with a warning popup about newer version of configuration)

Aaron said...

I'm getting some serious crashes with this release on OS X 10.6.4. It's basically unusable.

Jope said...

Just to clarify, my crashes are happening on Windows XP.

Handycam said...

How can you disable internal pdf viewing on a Mac? I'd rather have my PDFs download than read them in a browser.

Handycam said...

Oh, and this (and virtually every other dev build since 6.0) doesn't crash on Snow Leopard. I never enable any flag items either.

Windows 7 x64 - Crashes on every boot.

tRizzO said...

For those who has issue with crashing after update: search for how to create a new user profile: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=142059

It helped me to resolve this.

Cakalaky said...

@tRizzo Thanks for the tip on the fix. This fixed my issue. Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

Mr said...

Looks like an issue with syncing

Add --disable-sync as a parameter on start up.

Lukes said...

@Mr: Thanks for tip.

Dave said...

Another confirmation that --disable-sync fixes my constant crash problem.

Jope said...

Same here on Win XP, I had time to disable sync through the Tools menu and crashes are gone.

Scorchio said...

Same here on WinXP, --disable-sync fixed it. (I had no time to get inside the menu :D )

Cougar Abogado said...

@Curt Troutwine. Take a look at what it says in about:flags. I'm pretty confident form that language, and news bits I've read elsewhere, the devs want to avoid average users installing experimental items only to have them crash everything - they're really aimed at people who are willing to put up with serious buginess. Also, I understand that flags in dev jargon mean command-switches (e.g., --enable-apps). Make sense?

@Handycam. You may be able to disable the chrome pdf viewer (if that's what you mean) on a Mac version by going to about:plugins and disabling it there. Is that what you meant?

Luc VN said...

On my WinXP too, --disable-sync fixed it.

. said...

Is there a way to add in the -disable-sync parameter on a mac?

. said...

Disabling sync also solved my issue.

cs said...

Disabling sync fixed the crashes.
Pdf scroll still not working.

guerom00 said...

The about:plugins gives me a blank page… How do I disable the PDF viewer (because of the scroll bug) ?!

And about the problem with IDM and Chrome?

sam said...

"Why flags," you ask? Probably because they are planning to ALSO have labs, later on. The present flags aren't all exactly labs, but rather key features that they are currently working on integrating.

sam said...

What is the "x" in the upper-left corner of instant? It doesn't do anything for me.

Handycam said...

@Cougar Yes, that's what I was looking for, thanks.

Cougar Abogado said...

@Handycam.

Glad I could help, mate.

when this version is changed to beta?

Giaco said...

Add "Delate" to download file menu at down bar

bt said...

Please make it to where the download bar DOES NOT pop up when you start downloading something. Give us an option there.

I find it cumbersome to have to move the cursor down and click on the x to hide the download bar every time I start a download.

Chrome 8.0.552.11 dev (on Win7 64bit) crashes instantly for me. Removing the profile does not help. Adding --disable-sync does not help either.
