Nice, what are the new features? or why a super new version?
@charly
one feature I found in about:labs
GPU Accelerated Canvas 2D
Enables higher performance of canvas tags with a 2D context by rendering using Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) hardware.
That's what I'm talking about! I think this build enables partial hardware acceleration as the user about pointed out in the about:labs. New cloud print options too.
Black/white image lines problem seems to be fixed as well.
I read today that full hardware accel. isn't going to be default until Chrome 9 =(
"Background WebApps"
I think this is a pretty good indication of what Google intends to do with ChromeOS.
I want smooth scrolling
1.The mouse cursor still disappearing on certain pages.[eg.http://macworld.idg.se/]
2.The streaming from youtube still very bad.[on connection 100/100 Mb] Have to use Opera for it.
I couldn't have been using 'Canary build' for 3 or 4 days. It began crashing on launch. I had Gmail tab pinned. I was thinking of a way to update it. But with this 'dev channel' update it started working. Can a channel update another one?
What happend to the 3 unpacked google apps you could install.
gmail, docs & calendar apps are gone from the folder now.
Another nice update.
Thanks Google Dev Team! :)
Win Vista/32 bit
In "new tab", there is nothing , ie no "recently closed sites" or "apps" etc : I had closed them before and there is no way to re-enable them. How can I re-enable them ?
7.0.544 couldn't load any webpage and crashed. 8.0.552 has instant crash. All this on fresh Ubuntu 10.10 (x64) Am I missing some libs?
@Avinash Agrawal
Known bug: Issue 56510: NTP: Don't hide Google Chrome logo and hidden Apps/Most Visited/Recently Closed when BMB is detached.
For now, you can enable "Always show Bookmarks Bar", then the "recover" buttons would pop up at the bottom-left edge of the New Tab Page, like this: http://imgur.com/Ckduj.png
@Avinash Agrawal
Take a look at: Issue 58227 http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=58227
Easy fix is toggle the bookmark bar, and you will see the options back on the bottom
@Charly NET
"Super new version" is just because it's about time to bump the version number according to the new schedule. See this post back in July: .. we will be looking to release a new stable version about once every six weeks, roughly twice as often as we do today.
6.x was released on September 2, so +6 weeks is October 14.
Yes, we're on Milestone 8 now! :)
This doesn't speak of major new features (yet!), only that Milestone 7 is getting completed. And *that* version has had some nice improvements by now.
They're only a couple of days into 8, so nothing special to "warrant" this bump can understandably be seen quite yet.
As for the previous dev release, auto-update didn't work on one of my PCs. I had to uninstall/reinstall Chrome in order to get this release...
Bookmark Manager is laggy. Both clicking on folders or individual bookmarks and scrolling are slow to respond. I confirm this on the Mac.
I cannot open 'html5rocks.com' on this version. can somebody verify?
Ubuntu x86 10.10
P.S. - The developer console shows the complete html but the tab is just blank.
@slipstream and @alexandrojv
Thanks, couldn't find the answer to this anywhere :)
@Shree Jain
html5rocks.com opens fine here. WinVista 32 bit.
update error 12 ???
help
Finally with the GPU accelerated canvas, I'm able to get the Psychedelic speed, thats part of the IE9 testdrive.

way to go GC
Print preview has again been pushed to the next milestone. It has been pushed to the next milestone repeatedly since milestone 4. How is this still not making it in when a couple of milestones ago (M6) the code was supposedly ready but had only been pushed because the code freeze had just barely been missed? Seriously, this is a very basic feature that should be in every browser and in fact is in every other browser and as far as I can recall was in all of the others from the first release. We're now 8 major milestones along. Do you guys never print anything?
Is it possible to have the option to restore the last open tabs in the same window instead of opening up in a new window?
Also with the fast pace development, is a 64-bit architecture in Chromes future?
Thanks, keep up the good work.

This can be tested via

The instant lab doesn't work in incognito. Why?
In my Windows Seven (32), when i active the GPU accelerated feature, Chrome has been very unstable. Crash anytime, anywhere, anysite.
The video board is a Intel GM45.
Since when has it been possible to view the actual passwords for password-saved-sites???
Cos you can with this release!
Slight security hole i think???
I guess they're never really saved in a strongly protected place to begin with... but when you can get to them from the tools menu, that's a bit too easy!
(ignore if this is old news)
Great on GPU acceleration! Psychedelic Test on Win7 64bits gets 1482 revolutions per minute
Chrome 8.0.552.0
Flags: --enable-gpu-plugin --enable-gpu-rendering --enable-accelerated-decoding --enable-accelerated-2d-canvas --enable-fastback --enable-video-layering
Hallucinogenic mode doesn't work that well, 569 rpm.
But its still buggy on new Twitter or Foursquare.
@ Roch Horner
OMG yeah why can you show saved passwords in Google Chrome 8. Thats surely a security risk they're taking!!!
@ Rich Horner
Somewhat older than old news, this "Show saved passwords" feature was there since the first public build in September 2008.
Related security improvement request was one of the fist issues filed on the day of initial release: Issue 53: No Master Password Option.
@ Marasmo
I can confirm the HUGE amount of random crashes on nearly every website after GPU acceleration is turned on. Turning it OFF solves the problem.
Win Vista 32
I got one question, why Cooliris extension is still not available for Chrome under Linux, who is blocking this?
it's not updating from 7.0.544.0 to 8.0.552.0

"I read today that full hardware accel. isn't going to be default until Chrome 9 =("
Don't worry, at this rate, google chrome 9 dev will be out in a week or two =)
Today if you use Win 7 with aero it gets the transparent tab background (up on the window). On win xp this background is blue. But if you use silver windows xp theme it is still blue and not silver. It is a non-important request but should not be difficult to implement. Thanks.
@Matias: That is because of the default theme set to Chrome, it has nothing to do with the theme of Windows, and has never been.
This one crashes way too much, like once every 30 minutes. Unlike beta that crashed once a year lol
This is giving me a "aw snap" in every page, and no, my profile is not corrupted, since I moved to other versions and it stayed like that.
We urgently need a fix!!
@Shree Jain When I browse html5rocks.com it does not render. I have the same issue as you. I am running Ubuntu 10.04. I noticed this rendering issue with twitter.com and yahoo.com fantasy sports at times as well.
I have turned GPU Accelerated Canvas 2D on and off
8.0.552.5 Update
Still need to FIX PDF Viewer from shrinking page so small that you cannot read the contents when displaying an internal PDF form within the HTML page.
Win Vista/32 bit
-New common loading page which contains the spinny.
-Backend changes.
What this? especially this new commong loading page...wtf?
Did the 8.0.552.5 also disable about:labs?
about:labs are remplaced for about:flags
about labs do not work
about:labs was changed to about:flags
Horrible version build! Bug causes browser to crash on Google Maps and error out the system volume!
