Thanks Google!

Awesome! I was very much looking forward to this release.

Love the new toolbar!

BTW, I think you need to update the shortcut listing, as CTRL+B doesn't do anything. CTRL+SHIFT+B now brings up the bookmarks bar.

Thanks for the update! Just one comment: after updating from 5 to 6 on the beta channel, I cannot drag and drop by tabs, once they are torn apart from the main windows, they cannot be attached to any other windows anymore.

Thoughts? I know this was an issue in the past, so I don't want to open another bug if it's just my environment.

Good work! I'm on the dev channel, but I'm happy for all beta users who now get to share some Chrome 6 goodness!

My tabs are jumping between windows just fine. Might want to try a reinstall or turn off some extensions. Doesn't seem to be a build issue.

Was surprised by the new UI, looks great.

Hooray, Stop button on the left at last! :D Now let's see how well the anti-accidental-reload mechanism works in practice...

Looks really clean :)

Did you fix the PDF issue?

Dragontatt said...

This new version is great. Fast as hell, the full URL shows in the status bubble, the cruise controls on my mouse finally work again, the autofill is normal, and for whatever else I may have not noticed yet.

Thanks guys....

I am using MAC OS Snow Leopard and using Google Chrome Beta 6.0.472.33 and I can not use keyboard to open new tab, new window, copy, paste or any tasks. Please check it out this issue. Thanks.

Wow, the Beta Channel is a head of the Dev channel! May be I should switch to Beta?

Justin said...

has anyone else noticed since the last 3 weeks or so youtube videos load incredibly slow! (sometimes they dont at all). its not my internet, I have tried playing the same videos with internet explorer with no problem.

Justin said...

also, it seems like videos with the old player struggle the most

Jonas N said...

OraTek: Dev channel will most likely be ahead again already next week, or maybe even in the end of this week.

Offer option to move window control buttons back to the right in Lucid 10.04? :)

Halfdan Reschat said...

I kinda hate that ctrl + b doesn't work anymore. It is a feature that I used to use all the time. So is there any way of getting the feature back?

about:plugins doesn't allow you to deactivate the integrated Flash anymore. Split the two Flash versions so people who don't use the integrated version can use whatever version they like. I, for one, use my own modified version with no "Press Esc to exit full screen" and dual monitor full screen support.

Other than these two VERY BIG issues (mostly the Flash thing - can't live without it), the new version is great.

Halfdan Reschat said...

Got Chrome to stop using the integrated Flash version by renaming gcswf32.dll.

But still can't seem to find a way to make ctrl + b bring out the bookmark bar. Any suggestions?

Why were User Profiles removed .. I am hitting CTRL+M to change Profiles and nothing is happening.

Yves Goergen said...

Leaving away the "http://" is interesting, probably easier for less experienced users. But then again showing "https://" is inconsistent. There's a green lock already that is better to understand for most people than some cryptic htpp-what letters.

PS: Can I have a greenish URL bar for https pages with no warnings, please? Why is it only green for expensive certificates. They're all equally good in encrypting!

Tewan DraYk said...

@Yves Goergen
It's inconsistent, but many sites (last.fm for example) show a warning that says something like "Check your address bar to verify that you are visiting https://this.site.me/you"
Perhaps they thought of this?

As for extensions, I hope they finally fixed the "Unable to create directory for unzippping." error... going to give it a shot here after I shower.

Ryan said...

I'm experiencing constant crashes on this version (ever 15-20 seconds)... All other versions were fine.. How do I roll back?

Thanks,
-Ryan

Tewan DraYk said...

Still getting "Unable to create directory for unzipping."
It is trying to unzip in %LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Temp\scoped*

Changing directory permissions to everyone having full control doesn't do anything, as well as running Chrome as administrator.

PLEEEEEASE fix this, it's been doing it for as long as I remember. There are so many extensions out there like Google Mail Checker that make life so much easier.

How do I switch my homepage to display links only and not the huge modal images of Most visited pages. It distracts me to the point of not wanting to use Chrome anymore.

Michal Černohous said...

Neverending cycle of crashes on Windows 7 32bit - disable of all extensions -> no change.

Chuck said...

My Chrome was in English and was updated in French... what's up with that?

William said...

The new-tab button has changed functionality for the worse. Now it's impossible to click the button and then click a bookmark, because the bookmark bar is covered up by a modal window (faux tab).

Ryan said...

I'm also experiencing constant crashes after the upgrade.

Ming Lee said...

for those who need ctrl+b. try "auto hotkey", and map ctrl+shift+b to ctrl+b

Justin Hickman said...

I hate the change of behavior of opening a new tab. When I hit CTRL-T, or click on the (+) button, I expect it to actually open a tab instead of a strange overlay. This overlay doesn't allow clicking on bookmarks. At least give an option to turn this behavior off.

Alex Hirsch said...

I'm having the same problem as [grilix] -- my pinned tabs don't stay pinned and inactive when I close them; they just go away. Is there any way to get this back? Also, no Ctrl-B functionality is annoying.

Jonas N said...

As for some comments...

Ctrl+B was changed to Ctrl+Shift+B, so it's not a big deal in my opinion. You can even press both Ctrl and Shift with the same single finger. :D

I don't understand the two comments about the new tab feature though. I can't tell a difference here, unless this Beta build is different in this regard than 6.0.472.25 dev.

Jonas N said...

And no, I don't think you can get the old behavior of pinned tabs back. Google abandoned the Phantom Tabs idea for whatever reason. At this point, I think only a new issue filed where this is requested is a way to get it back in some shape, *if* Google get that issue starred enough to move it up as a priority feature.

What I'd like would be to not even have a close tab icon on the pinned tabs, forcing the user to right-click and select close to close it.

Crashed when I tried to set up the sync

Kim said...

Keep getting crashes every 2-5 minutes, independent of which web page I'm at.

Thorinair said...

I *really* don't like the new UI and the idea to remove the background of buttons (it ruined all of my themes) and I think that leaving out "http://" is pretty much pointless as well.

Edward said...

Stable and seems to work well

Garowetz said...

The loss of Phantom Tabs, something which was a part of my daily Chrome use is a big dissapointment.

Also the changing of Short cuts from a simple Ctrl-B to Ctrl-Shift-B is not cool, again something that I use all the time. I only want to see the bookmarks when I need them, bring back a Two key show/hide.

Recommendation. Please allow saving of zoom setting. New release has smaller default type. for me necessary to use zoom every time. Overall, great release.

FYI, Yahoo Mail Beta is not working well with Google Chrome 6 Beta. This started yesterday when I got the update. When I am trying to delete an email, it gives the "aw, snap" message and I am require to reload the page. It works fine in Yahoo Mail Classical. Ironically, this issue is only happening on my Windows 7 Professional PC and not on my Mac OS 10.6 MacBook. Thanks.

gravityfreak99 said...

I second the problem with Yahoo Webmail... since the update, any time I try to use Yahoo webmail, the Chrome tab it's in crashes. I'm running Win7 Home Premium. I hate having to revert back to IE just to check my email! :(

J Richmond said...

I love Chrome, but removing the go button is just a bad UI decision. If my hand is on the mouse (which it is 75% of the time when I'm browsing), I shouldn't have to move my hand to the keyboard to hit enter.

Anisha said...

Bring back the phantom tabs for pinned tabs! I loved that function.

Eddy said...

After the update Chrome crashes every 5 till 30 minutes, independent of which web page I'm at. This is the first update that this happen for me.

J and J said...

Seems to run very well on everything I do, except for trying to manage my Netflix queue. I notice that the cursor stays at a hand image and jumps around sporadically when I try to move it. Have to run IE in order to manage the queue. Did not have this issue on the last Chrome version. Am running Win 7 64 bit Home Premium.

Dani said...

As many of the others I would like to have the Go button back at the omnibox.

Marten Deinum said...

Received the update yesterday at home and no problems there. Today I arrived at worked, plugged in my laptop and all the google services stopped working (reader, calendar). It works in firefox and ie. It probably has to do with the fact that we are behind a (NTLM) proxy.

Reverting back to chrome 5 (stable version) resolves this issue. So it really seems like a chrome 6 bug/issue.

Any pointers?

Yahoo mail beta (the web 2.0 version) is constantly crashing: Aw Snap!

The workaround is to use Yahoo Mail Classic. But please fix this!

Version 6.0.472.33 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard crashes every time the my MacBook Pro wakes from sleep

Missy said...

Yahoo mail hasn't worked at all for me for at least 2 weeks, I was hoping this update fixed it. Nope. I can't do anything, Yahoo Mail loads, but can't open the Inbox or any folder or create a new mail.

I'm not going back to Classic mode just to keep using Chrome as a work around. I'll have to go to some other less than desirable browser.

David said...

Please bring back ctrl+b functionality. I used this feature regularly and the extra stretch is something I would rather not get used to.
