stable so far :) nice to see flash updated and enabled by default. like the grey way more than the blue.
CTRL+B lost....
Things I miss most (in order)
- ability to drag star into bookmark folder
- CTRL-B to toggle bookmarks bar
- star on left
- Theme manager
Anybody else having problems with the automatic translation. Seems to be broken.
still getting random crashes on wordpress.
also... http:// is missing from omnibox! is that intentional? :)
Default color of the window is now a tope/silver color and no longer light blue?
@Sushubh,
Yes, it's intentional.
Very nicely done! Thank you - Google Team! :)
Ctrl + B is now Ctrl + Shift + B, I already figured out.
Question; With internal Flash now enabled by default, what happens if Flash plugin already installed? About:Plugins shows both internal and external plugin detected and used, which is actually used? Should I disable the external Flash plugin in About:Plugins ?
I would also like to know about the two flash plugins, should i disable my external flash?
Great that flash is default now and the new version seems to have fixed the crashing i was having! Great release.
Search queries entered in the Omnibox no longer redirect to results from the local Google search.
Example: When I enter a search, I get results from Google.com, not Google.ca.
A temporary workaround exists in the fact that I can switch my default search to Google Canada, but this brings to light another issue: When Google Canada is set as the Omnibox search default, it will not load search suggestions, it will only show related items in favorites and history.
It's great!!.............................................
heya,
Mine seems to be crashing when I open Gmail - is this something related to Flash? This is on Windows. (I know my copy of Firefox before would crash when I opened up Gmail, had to disable Flash).
Also, my translation also isn't working, error says:
"The translation failed because of a server error."
Weird.
Cheers,
Victor
heya,
Just thought I'd update, if I go into "about:plugins", and disable both copies of Flash (the internal Chrome one, and the one in Program Files), Gmail now loads fine.
Urgh, I hate Flash...
Cheers,
Victor
The translation problem affected the last dev release as well. I have filed a bug report
TO WHO IS WONDERING ABOUT THE ABILITY TO DRAG THE STAR: you can now drag the globe near reload button to save the page in the favorite folder as you wish..
I really like the "hide http" thing and I'm okay with default grey, though it would be nice to have the same gray on hovering the thumbnails.. so i filed a bug report here:
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=41269
This is Windows, not a Mac. I would like to request the default blue back, please. Or at least a .crx theme with the original. Thank you.
You may want to update the image for the "Classic" theme.
https://tools.google.com/chrome/intl/en/themes/theme_classic.html
Fantastic update, by the way.
@WES: I think they wait for the gray to come to beta/stable (more likely stable) to change the preview.. I also hope they add soon the blue theme there (so who wants back the old one can switch back, as to now is impossible)
I do not shop using Google chrome coz i have seen that it stores my Credit Card Number. I would like to auto fill other information but not credit cards
I still feel safe using IE for that kind of stuff.
- Default gray theme is a nonsense on windows, please revert to blue (it's not Mac, please respect Windows platform's visual integrity). Users that want gray can install a theme if they want.
- Please revert the Bookmark Bar and Bookmark Manager shortcuts.
- Please revert the old (left) position of the bookmark star, it is more intuitive there (and is also dragable). Also, keep refresh as a separate button.
- Whoever is now playing at "enhancing" the UI would better stop before he completely ruins the great UI Chrome already had. You'd better concentrate on a better bookmarks manager (the one that is available now sucks big time), a better extensions manager as well.
- Finally, please revert to the old tabs animation, the new "new tab" animation is seriously incoherent with all the other animations (like closing a tab) and is overdone. Do not forget that Chrome is so popular because of its simplicity and speed. Don't ruin that aspect or people will migrate to the upcoming Firefox 4.0.
Oh, and a possibility to have more than 8 frequently visited site miniatures on the new tab panel would be very appreciated (look at opera 10.50, that's the way it's done)
Please, turn back on a protocol name in the address bar...
Please....
Trying to get into this blog (and other in blogspot) still crashes Chrome big time... :(
Agreed, stop with the UI changes.. this is ridiculous and you're changing what we already like.
- Bookmarks button should be on the LEFT and globe should be switched back. Who thought of this?!
- Bring the blue theme back, or at least make it an option.
- QUIT ruining the GUI!
I'm gonna continue to post on every update until this is reverted.
The built-in translation engine works for me now.
I like the missing "http" but when I am copying the URL to the clipboard, it would be better if it were copied including the http because I often use it elsewhere.
Cheers, LM
Unlike these other commenters, I personally love the UI changes. The star on the right, gray theme, lack of http://, etc. It looks really nice. Please, keep it!
I disabled the external Flash and it works only with the internal. No problem so far... It's wise to integrate the beta or RC versions of Flash because some users including me had problems installing beta 3.
@molumen
You can use Speed Dial for Chrome v2.0 extension to create even 9x9 grids.
All the problems that I'm about to mention, happen while using incognito mode with Win7 32.
Adjusting the 'Content Settings' (Allow or Block) for a website via the icons in the omnibox, does not work. Also, when you add a website(s) manually into the 'Exceptions..' window of the 'Content Settings', you have to restart Chrome in order for the setting (Allow or Block) for the website(s) to go into affect.
(Content Settings radio buttons for 'Cookies', 'Java-Script' and 'Plug-ins' are 'Block sites...' and 'Do not allow...'.)
Now, this problem has to do with the 'Options' for Extensions. When you click the 'Options' link for extensions, nothing happens. Well... Chrome flickers for a ms, but when you close Chrome, it's process(es) are still running and you have to shut them down through Task manager.
Now this isn't really a bug, more or less a feature request. It's in regards to the 'Bookmark Manager'. Would it be possible to have an option to allow users to view it in a tab instead of a whole new Chrome window? Also, could it accessible in incognito mode too?
Can anyone else confirm these problems?
Anyway, keep up the good work Chrome team!
From what I've seen of the GUI changes, everything's fine, with the often redundant "http" info removed and other buttons moved more according to the left-to-right reading order.
This is taboo to say, but people who dislike intelligent UI changes are often people who have a hard time adapting to changes. ;) It's common and typical, regardless if the changes are good or bad. :p
The grey looks very incongruous in Windows 7, like it's some old Windows 95 app. Wouldn't it be better to use system colours instead? At the very least, make the old default theme available in the themes gallery.
@Jug
You're not the only one who realizes this, but change for the sake of change (e.g. the UI color) is not "intelligent". This is not Firefox, and the GUI being how it was is one of the several reasons I use Chrome over FF.
You were probably one of these guys boasting the "intelligent" GUI changes between Office 2003 and 2007 eh?
i want my favourite blue theme back please :(
ended event on mediaElements isn't firing. Previous dev channel update intimated this was localised to the linux build. I'll see about flagging this on the existing linux ticket, or raising anew
I love the UI changes! The grey looks much nicer, and the star is better on the right.
Ctrl-B doesn't show the bookmark bar, and so I can't find a way to access bookmarklets.
@ReanimationXP
Personally, I love the UI changes. Listing the protocol was really unnecessary, and the gray is an improvement as well. I agree there should be a "Classic" option in the gallery as people hate change.
I never even noticed the star was moved (keyboard shortcut man, here) but I like it more on the right. I think the glove would like nice beside it though.
As for Office 2007, I think the Ribbon UI was a fantastic improvement. I also have loved every change of Facebook and Youtube made so far.
I feel the add bookmark button should be in the bookmarks section.
Maybe add a star to next to the page (but is removed when the bookmark bar is shown), and have it show the bookmarks and an add bookmark button.
It just doesn't look right in the address bar.
I like the grey, fits in with my W7 Desktop a lot better than the blue.
I miss Ctrl+B for Bookmarks bar.
Gmail *seems* a little faster now, not sure why.
Agree with some of the other stating that they grey theme should go.
Nice to note that GPU (DXVA) flash is now integrated though - and seems to work well.
+1 to chase.com. chrome still crashes after logging in.
I think all the GUI changes are fantastic. People seriously need to learn to be a little more flexible. These are essentially alpha releases, after all. By the time this gets to stable, it will be a major version jump (4 to 5) in which case some GUI changes make sense and are even expected.
@Jug agreed
@ReanimationXP Yes, I'm sure he was. If you honestly feel the 2003 layout was better than 2007, you pretty just proved Jug's point.
Oh and +1 to Chase. Does not work.
Unable to attach anything in GMail. When I try, Chrome freezes and I have to close it through task manager. Win XP Pro SP3. 5.0.375.3
I'm wondering if Chrome ever flushes out the browser cache after a specified time? I know we can manually flush this - but does Chrome ever use the older cache entries - like from the previous day?
Just curious - sorry, I know this is not the place for this question.
Love the tab animations. And all the complaints about not being able to drag the star. Just drag the world icon. Does the same thing right?
Im confused about the flash issue. As of this version, do we still need to have the --enable-internal-flash argument in the shortcut?
apn3a and r546: Regarding not being able to login to chase.com, please go here and star this issue
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=40618
When on http://habrahabr.ru/ and open http://html5test.com/ by wheel in new tab. Then closing http://html5test.com/ prevent to crashe the tab with http://habrahabr.ru/
@8ball
YT says 5 star rating system wasn't working correctly so they replaced it with a simpler one. That's Google's fashion. Maybe they will add a percent based overall rating according to the votes. I think it'll cover your needs too.
@Mmmbacon
No, Flash is enabled by default.
Grey theme looks horrible under windows 7.
I don't understand the decision behind removing "http://" from the URLs, but not removing "https://" when "being secure" it's clearly indicated by the icon next to the URL.
I prefer a blue theme, grey is boring.
And the spell-checker doesn't work :/
remove http://, just strange enough
Love the new UI.
@r546
On the contrary - proves you don't know a damned thing about what Joe User wants. Office 2007's GUI changes were widely known (particularly in IT) as one of the greatest mistakes M$ has ever made. While the ribbon might have been a good idea for some things, the File, Edit, etc bars that had become (and still are) a standard in ALL Windows applications were completely removed from this one suite of apps, yet left in Outlook 2007. It was a good idea in theory, but the File menus should have been left there also, and now my Word 2007 toolbar is filled with "Style" buttons that are of no use to me instead. New GUI's in late versions should be an option, not a change. The backlash is not there because we want to stifle innovation - it's there because it's how users were used to doing shit and speed is of the essence.
You want to make GUI changes? You make them early on, not in version 5.0. If you do, ask me if I want the new changes. Figuring out where to put the bookmarks button goes is something that should have come up long before my hand is automatically trained to click to the left of the address bar - and ultimately, it's not helping anyone. Put it back.
Pleeeaaassee give me a way to switch back to the old theme, the grey one hurts my eyes :(
Otherwise, everything else is good.
Oh, and inb4 "You're in IT - You're biased."
I support hundreds of users on our corporate network. Their complaints are my complaints. This gives me a great idea of what users at large are looking for. Change for the sake of change is not one of them. No we don't use Chrome in the corporate environment - yet. Perhaps this is why.
I prefer having the protocol displayed in the address bar even when it is just http://.
What would be interesting is if we were able to colour the default theme (like in MSN). It would appeal to the younger users a bit more, and keep everyone happy who wants the old theme back (including myself).
@ReanimationXP
I don't want to change the subject, but the ribbon wasn't the mistake. The mistake, in my mind, was not making it a Windows component so other developers could use it. It would have kept a lot more consistency.
http://www.youtube.com/googlechromethemes
definitely not gray :(
All of these changes would be great if there were some way to decide by yourself if you want to use them. Having them on by default is fine, but having no way to change Chrome back to way it was before is really no-go for me.. and for that reason I had to get some older Chromium build. At least that one doesn't automatically update into newer version and force me to use all those fancy changes.
@undu
I thought YouTube just brought back the 5-star rating system. -Sigh.
The grey way is really.... (I 'm sorry to say this, even if I am a Google Chrome fan)AWFUL! Please change it again....the light blue color was much better.
On the contrary, I like the bookmark star that was put on the right some updates before.
But I miss YouTube video downloader add-ons....where have they gone?
Agreed.
GRAY IS AWFUL!
Every time I open Google Chrome (and most of the time I have it already opened) it really irritates me!
Please change it back, please!
@ReanimationXP
While I understand the frustrations you must deal with being in IT from users who do not know how to print their Word 07 document, I can't in good faith say that means that MS shouldn't have made the change. Where, then, do you draw the line between keeping things the same because people are used to it, and improving things? Eventually you have to move on. And yes you could argue that they should've left it as an option, but that would've added an extreme workload (and time) to development to replicate all the new features in the old GUI, something I don't think would've been worth their efforts. It's okay to go through a slight teething period if it means better software in the end.
GUI changes happen in late versions all the time (see Office, Internet Explorer). However, I will agree with you that certain trivial things, like the position of the star, can be confusing being switched around in later versions. With that said, though, it DOES feel much more natural to me being on the right instead of the left, so I still support the change.
http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome?view=rev&revision=44140
I like how even though the http:// is hidden, it gets added back when I copy the full url to the clipboard. I was concerned that it wouldn't, but it did.
the grey is fine, everyone needs to stop complaining. you're just not used to it
could you guys possibly come out with a real transparent theme (similar to firefox 3.7)
I really really hate the grey. Maybe it looks simple on XP and normal on MAC and great on Linux but on Windows 7 it is that ugly that I really want to change browser because of this.
And no, theme extensions are not an alternative because there aren't really beautiful ones.
On Windows 7 you get headache from this grey colour, it doesn't fit into the blue of Windows and yes, I am unwilling to change Windows colors all to grey that it looks like a MAC.
@Justin
That would be cool, but shaded a bit lighter (like the Mac toolbar).
Gray isn't a Google color, but blue is...enough said. Please change the color back as it meshes better with the overall color scheme of Google and its products (almost every Google product has blue in it, why not its browser?) Otherwise, a fairly stable release so far.
@Chrome devs,
Could somebody really explain us why these UI changes have been made?
It's always the dissatisfied people who are the loudest.
Just so that it won't seem like everyone is dissatisfied with the new UI, I'd like to say that I like it very much. I found most changes to be an improvement, and the colour scheme is definitely more pleasant/relaxing. Only thing is copying URLs should keep the http:// prepended (as someone else already mentioned).
chrome copies the URL with http:// so it's not that big of a problem for me... i am fine with the color changes. themes are always there if i want to get back the blue color.
Blue back please, gray looks old.
Tab animation too much.
I liked the star on the left better.
Have to agree with Szabolcs, it seems the dissatisfied are the most vocal. The new tab animation is great as is the color (easier on the eyes).
I'm happy with the UI changes. The grey seems to fit in well with other websites e.g. Facebook.
Haven't come across any Gmail crashes yet(touch wood).
Keep up the good work Google.
Found one possible loose end on the http:// thing. When I copy and paste to a plain text editor, I get the version with the http:// added, but when I paste to something that accepts rich text, like Word or Pidgin, the http:// is missing from the text, though it still links to the full url.
WTH is this sh*t?!
- Please put the blue theme back
- Please put the protocol back (I can't see the difference between http and https now)
- My report has still not been acknowlegded nor fixed: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=35804
This is no good. It just keeps crashing....
Another vote for putting the protocol back in the address bar. It really sucks to email or IM someone a URL with a missing protocol...
At least make it a configurable option for those people that think it's somehow better to not display the protocol.
I like http:// removed from the address bar.
this new color is crap
C'mon. This thing crashes more than you actually use it.
Why didn't you guys fix that instead of releasing the new ugly theme. What's the point of a new theme if you can't see it since the thing constantly crashes.
People getting Chase or other unexpected sad tabs can workaround by using the "--disable-geolocation" commandline switch.
what? my comments have been removed?!!
what is this? have China took over google?
yeah, I hate Gray, it's lifeless,
and I hate the Star on right,
I miss the Ctrl+B for B.Bar,
and removing the http:// from address is just weird and for no obvious reason.
love everything else.
Can we get back the scheme name for the url? At least when copying out of chrome, it's useful to have the http:// appended.
every time I see a new chrome version is available I'm worried wondering if you changed something for the worse.. and guess what it happens.
-new crap color (look at extensions page.. all still blue and nicer)
- crappy icon on omnibar before the url
-you hid http://... now u dont know if it's ftp, https, etc etc
-shitty cookie blocked icon
disappointing
I agree with the others, this is a disappointing release.
Wow. I didn't notice with the last build, so I'm not sure when it happened. But with 5.0.375.6 for Mac I've noticed that Chrome remembers pinned tabs between sessions.
Perfect.
Thanks Chrome team. Details like this are awesome. I've got GMail permanently pinned to my browser.
I really think this is great. Chrome is looking awesome for me. The bookmark star is in the right place now. A button just for it is unnecessary. The reload button is also well put. About the new color: Since Vista, Windows hasn't been based on a blue theme. So, please, a little less unfounded complaints.
Google Chrome team: you guys make surfing the internet more fun :) thanks!
I like how it displays the globe and the magnifying glass and padlock and such that it previously only showed when typing into the Omnibox. I do like that.
I do not like how the Go and Refresh buttons are now separate, though. When would you need to "Go" that you couldn't simply refresh?
If you're changing the URL, it becomes a Go button. If you haven't changed anything, it is Refresh. And when you want to stop loading, it is an X. What is wrong with that?
Like I said earlier, however, the grey/silver theme is atrocious. XP was default blue. Blue still exists in a lot of Windows property. Like the Windows 7 and Vista logon backgrounds. I am not a Mac user! I do not want to have to use a special theme to remove this disgusting feeling of using a Mac...
And if you're going to go changing the colors, just put a color wheel in the Options that allow the user to very easily select the color theme of his or her browser.
Default Blue > Default Silver
"All
Flash enabled by default"
Flash is not enabled by default on linux(at least not in Kubuntu). And the idea of a color wheel in the Options window is great.
1) Default color should be light blue, previous one.
2) I don`t have problem with new tab animation at all.
3) Bookmark Shortcuts should be changed back to previous.
4) Star position doesn`t matter to me at all.
5) Too much crashes, most worst developer version until now.(nothing less expected)
6) Good move to put Flash by default.
7) Please add two shortcuts.
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?fid=4acf87eba4c9bf9600048254f05544ab&hl=en
8) At least one good ad blocker.(Not as much required)
9)Not compatible with most sites like zdnet.com, hotmail.com.
10)Uploading box of Rapidshare and other site like tinypic also missing, It is due to Webkit same with Safari.
Yes, I use chrome because of its beautiful blue default theme. Also put the HTTP back and put the bookmark star button back to the front.
I also want blue theme back.
I've changed to gray one without any opportunity to turn it back mannually.
If you want grey by default you must immediately create "Original blue" theme. But you haven't.
Gray for windows with default blue everywhere looks awful.
i used google chrome and firefox =)

Google - please, please, please allow us at least an option to put the default blue theme back - it looks ruddy awful like I've got thick grey dust across the top of my screen.
I didn't realise how much I cared about the colour of that bar until you changed it - now please change it back (on Windows at least!)...

EHI EVERYBODY: for who is concerned about new grey theme, I created an issue due to have an option to get back the blue theme (an option, a blue theme in the gallery or at least a command line for now). to get this fixed please star this bug. crying here is useless.
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=41445
Hilarious!! LOL
Chrome team having waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much fun with UI ! -_-"
I THINK I like how when you pin a tab it becomes permanent even if you close the tab (it then become a bookmark up at the tab bar).
My only issue is that this creates a strange situation, where Chrome treats its first window different than others. RIght now I've got instapaper and gmail pinned to my first window that Chrome opens. Everytime it opens those two pinned tabs are there. If I "close" one of them, their bookmark hangs out on the tab bar.
But then if I open a new window neither pinned tab is there. If I create a new pinned tab on that window, Chrome doesn't seem to remember it.
I'm thinking pinning a tab should be a property (or maybe a folder like the bookmark toolbar folder) in the bookmarks manager. Also, if a pinned tab gets closed, its "tab bar favicon bookmark" should appear in the pinned area of every open window. Or maybe there should be a dropdown menu, all the way on the left of the tab bar (like the applications menu in Chrome OS) where pinned tabs bookmarks can be found (rather than hanging out as favicons on the tab bar when closed).
Interesting UI experiments team. refine refine refine.
Still there is no confirmation before opening bookmark catalog in new tabs on Mac. If You accidentaly click bookmark catalog with cmd button pressed than you end up with many sites opened at once!
Getting the "Whoa! Google Chrome crashed" error whenever I lose internet connection. This might be when my laptop goes into standby or if my router reassigns me a DHCP address. Not ideal.
I get the Ah, Snap! on every email I get from Continental Airline.
I know these are development releases and I'm OK with that but really, why release crap, what's the purpose?

ajaksu,
Thanks for the tip.
Starting chrome by "chrome.exe --disable-geolocation" fixed the crashes.
I haven't had problems with crashes at all despite having used the dev version for months. But with this version Chrome crashes EVERY TIME Windows (7 Pro, 32-bit) wakes from sleep mode. It also seems to be connected with not having a functioning internet connection yet (I use the "open pages that were open when you closed Chrome" feature).
Since this is a new problem that did not exist in the 4/8 version, troubleshooting it shouldn't be too hard.
My usual routine, as a Linux user, for pasting a url into an IM or email is to highlight the URL and then middle mouse click into the IM input box. In X this copies and pastes, but because of the removal of the protocol from the url it does not work as it usually would. I could right-click, copy in the address bar, and then right-click, paste in the IM box, which pastes the protocol too, but that's a lot of extra steps than what I am used to.
It would be preferable if there could be a change to allow the x middle mouse copy work properly, or return the protocol to it's place in the address bar.
excuse me if I repeat myself... but this is important...

hmm i get glitchy bits while using flash pages etc. Anyone else have this problem ?
Fedora 12, x86_64.
No flash enablement working whatsoever.
The lack of the protocol should be configurable IMO - the lack does mean that text grabs without formal COPY-PASTE do not work. (as noted by Calxaed) This is an issue...
The Dev channel has been updated to 5.0.375.7 for Windows - but the Blog has not been updated.
Thanks for the changes! I especially like the change away from the XP blue to a more muted color.
For those who think the reload/go/stop should be combined: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=18462
5.0.375.6 fixes crash of logging in to chase.com.
Other crashes also seem to be gone.
Hope there is no more regressions.
Meant 5.0.375.7 fixes the crashes.
A wish: Hopefully, the new version of Chrome on this page shows fluid:

Everyone who wants blue back star this.
Look. The obsession with blue vs grey is a little over the top for a dev channel build.
There's no doubt that a blue theme will be added, or a set of default themes made more accessible.
Does anyone think that GOOGLE is going to offer a product that can't be bluthed (I mean blued).
Blue is Google's OG color.
just relax people. If this "issue" hits the stable channel than you can freak out.
If you want the original blue theme:
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/oppbdedflbioggjkeneigjcmpomohajo?hl=it
you can also find the classic theme at the themes gallery
https://tools.google.com/chrome/intl/en-419/themes/theme_classic.html
yeah, but that last theme is replaced with the new theme version..
But I kinda get used to the new theme, I think it's better then the overall blue version. I do agree with others that the old theme should be available, or better, a colorchanger in the options menu.
getting effed when going to chase.com
really blows, had to switch to opera for my banking needs
update: Chase is working again in
5.0.375.7 dev
HURRAY! thanks chrome team
@Javier: the point is that u are wrong. that theme has the blue theme screenshot but apply the gray theme anyway because *that* is now default. a way to get the blue is missing, that is the reason for which i filed the bug above..
Crashes coming out of sleep on Windows 7 x64.
I'd really like to be able to add the "http" back to my omnibox.
In linux if you use the mouse buffer to copy & paste (e.g. select the URL, then paste with shift-insert) it doesn't add the http:// like a regular copy & paste would.
This is frustrating.
Is there any chance there could be an option to hide/unhide the http protocol?
Perhaps someone more clever than me could write an extension that does it :)

for the http stripping from omnibox, if anyone else is interested :)
hi! i'm seo from korea

thank you

heya,
I just updated to 375.7, and it's still annoyingly buggy...lol. (There's no forum post for 375.7 yet).
Flash still causes a hard crashes on Gmail (Windows, 32-bit), had to disable Flash plugin before I was able to open Gmail.
And Google Docs (New Version) doesn't work, in that the keyboard doesn't enter in any characters at all. I tested with IE8, I'm able to enter in characters fine there, so it doesn't seem to be Google Docs issue, as such.
Cheers,
Victor
Chrome dev. was just updated to version 5.0.375.3
The haven't updated the site yet :p
looks like a Bookmarks manager improvements,
Star is still on the RIGHT side. -Sucks!
Ctrl+B doesn't work. -Sucks!
is silverlight 4 working with latest dev....for me the loading of pages is very slow and is making chrome completely unresponsive.....
every i have to kill pages using chrome task manager......
even silverlight videos stopped loading ......
for those of you concerned about the Star mover to the right side:
the shortcut is Ctrl+d
this is really fast and easy so they may move that Star wherever the hell they want.
STOP messing with the GUI, leave it alone and work on what's really important.
Fixing bugs and implementing most requested features.
Leave the GUI alone for now, Just bring back the Ctrl+b for bookmarks bar, it is really hard to do Ctrl+SHIFT+b and it's unnecessary since this shortcut is free(?)
When I try to unplug the network cable, chrome crashes.
Silverlight 4 works fine for me. I just installed it this morning.Still miss the shortcut Ctrl+B,hope it can be take back next version.
Is it important to add 'http://' string at the beginning of urls? Even 'www' is not very important for me. I think some IM software don't make any sentence a link unless they begin with http. https is still there but I don't know about ftp.
For me 5.0.375.7 has fixed the crash on returning from standby but not for loss of (wireless) network either by repairing the connection in Windows or restarting my wireless router.
Crashed on YouTube with turned on HTML5 mode:
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=41648
Since the most recent update Chrome has been crashing a lot more often, in particular when bring the computer out of hibernation.
Just to confirm 5.0.375.7 seems to solve the crashes, I threw at it the 4-5 pages that were consistently blowing up Chrome, and all is ok.
mac os 5.0.375.6 is crashing in: http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/ when im changing style.

"And it's definitely not gray"
Good to know the Chrome team are getting back to the web's boring, ugly, functional roots.
Gmail Using 161 MB.
Is this Normal
My Google chrome works fine but when i put my computer to standby and then come back i see that chrome has crashed.
Flash is definitely not stable. Apple's not stupid to go against it.
Most of the time my chrome crashes it's because of flash. You open a new tab with flash and it just freezes there sometime.
When are you gone to improve cleaning history in Ctrl+H window? If it's not important, then just remove 'Edit items...' link from that window.
5.0.375.7 hasn't crashed in many hours. It used crash countless time before in the same amount of time.
Is there a config to move the star from right to left. Being at the far right away from the website address is not correct. It has to be connected to the address. Beginning of the address is the right intuitive place.
Happy for everything except the gray color. On the new tab screen, when the bookmarks are not docked the gray bar with the blue border is just awful ;)
.7 version still goes boom if you back from standby mode.
still crashes if the network connection is lost!
@MhdHejazi pelase vote to get it fixed
code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=41475
New Dev Update: 5.0.375.9
Blog unchanged...
Updated to 5.0.375.9 but it's still crashing....
@ak voted, thanks!
but it seems like it's fixed in the last update 5.0.375.9
That last update to 5.0.375.9 has fixed both crash situations for me - loss of network and return from standby. Thanks!
In all the chrome themes pictures, the star is shown at the beginning address bar. That's the most intuitive place.
Pl. change the star to that left place.
Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): browser messages are now cached for one
minute. Every time this dns error is displayed one needs to wait >60 seconds
until reload/f5/shift-f5 is working again.
(rev 43997 introduced this bug)
I'm sorry, but I can't find any details for the last 2 updates (375.7 and 375.9, dev channel). But don't go to any trouble: everything works fine so far :)
crash fixed, cool
Updated to 5.0.375.9 dev. Oddly, Fedora 64-bit requires --enable-internal-flash to get the plugin to work. Without that option, the plugin goes to 100% cpu and does not function. This is the launcher command:
/opt/google/chrome/google-chrome --enable-extension-timeline-api --enable-internal-flash %U
Flash responses are getting very poorly with the new builds. If that is the consequence of embedding flash, this would be a major issue that need some polishing.

It's definitely not gray. really? LOL
I wonder what "Implement patterns for content setting exceptions" is supposed to mean. It doesn't do what I expected and hoped for. Please tell me, what does this [*.] do at all?
i'm considering starting a "Chrome, give my http:// back!" group on facebook. also, ctrl+insert doesn't append http:// as ctrl+v does. but don't matter, give it back anyways.
Please look at this bug: http://crbug.com/41873
Is there a known problem with dragging of folders and individual bookmarks to control order on Linux? At this point, I have no way to re-order or re-arrange bookmarks in the bookmark manager. Seems to work fine on the Mac...
suggest a new feature: add copy link in download manager
bug: open new blank tab in every download
Ron is not alone with Linux Bookmark Manager issues. I have the same issue on F12 64-bit.
Typing a url very fast will overwrite what you written previously; it's selecting the first few chars of text and its annoying.
heya,
I've now upgraded to 5.0.375.9 (Why aren't there new blog posts for new versions? Weird).
Flash still causes a crash in Gmail *sigh*.
Still, when copying from Omnibox, at least http is prepended.
I'm curious, does anybody know if adding "--enable-extension-timeline-api" causes any issues or slowdowns?
Cheers,
Victor
had to go back to stable :( its not crashing, but pages keep saying they cannot load and reloading does nothing. I have close chrome and re-open it, it happens a lot
@Justin
I was filed a bug about that: http://crbug.com/41873 Please star it. It happens a lot to me, too.

error message: OLD FLASH, GO UPGRADE!
Bring back the blue please, silver is ugly.
I know this is alpha/beta, but did you guys try filling out a form? I cannot fill out ANY forms - it crashes hard. Isn't this basic stuff, like something to be caught in the first 10ms of regression testing?
It seems that sometimes when typing in a text area, I lose the ability to do any form of editing (backspace, delete, cut, moving the cursor with arrow keys)... This is on a Mac 10.6.3
For those of you who don't like the grey theme, here's a link to install the default blue again.
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/oppbdedflbioggjkeneigjcmpomohajo?hl=en
I'm not opposed to UI changes but I hardly think fiddling with the color is appropriate when there are MAJOR functionality issues outstanding, like the ability to "just open" a download without having to save it to the hard drive.
@Keith:
That's exactly my problem. Started happening more and more often. Just a little while ago I couldn't do much of any formatting or keyboard shortcuts in Gmail email window text fields. Closed the browser, went away, and now it works again. But then ran into another website where again I couldn't even delete the text after typing. This text box seems ok for now... That's a glaring bug, I would say :)
Just to add my opinion on the UI changes: overall very nice, I like how http is hidden, star is moved out of the way (who needs it anyway), and the gray windows theme.
I just disabled external flash and it seems to have fixed the sluggishness of the browser and the messups in text boxes with broken keyboard functions.
Here's a suggestion of how to fix the placement of the bookmark star.
http://www.gowebnow.net/chrome/images/bookmark-star-placement.jpg
You can all relax (for now).
The theme is being reverted to blue and Bookmarks star is returning to the left...............
Until version 6. but on the bright side, you have more time to change the developers' minds.
But I repeat, Chrome 5 will go Stable WITHOUT the new UI changes.
whats 5 even going to have then? better html5, bookmark manager and other little things im sure. I cant imagine them integrating flash to stable quite yet. I was really hoping aero peek would be in 5 :(
oh and meok thats a really good idea with the bookmark star
@Meok: really nice idea about star/go/stop actions on the right. I really dislike the star in the middle of page actions... why don't u open an issue on that? I think a lot of people will support your idea. BTW where did you read about chrome 5 going on-air without UI changes? and what about the ''hide http'' thing?
I know they will wontfix this... but I thought it was worth trying... I think different protocols should have different colors: in my mock since now the chosen color for https is green (in the trunk) I used blue for http and violet for ftp. So this is a proposal against hide http and for highlight the protocol, that is important, with a touch of style.
Please take a look here, if you like the idea please star it:
