oh my god, this is the release with Flash Support in Linux right? I love you, Googlers! Finally i can use Google Chrome as my default browser <3

Maybe it's just me but this release seems much faster.

"The blue Bookmark bar on the top below the address bar can hold links and folder also. With Firefox and Safari once you click on the folder it's expand and show the links inside that folder. if you move cursor to the next folder it's automatically expand without clicking on it again. With Chrome I need to click to close folder and click one more time to expand another folder. It's a lot of clicking with no reason. I mention that couple times before but it's look like nobody think about that like a problem. Personally I have categories on the bookmark bar and that way I can find and browse really quick true my bookmarks."
Still waiting for this.

Flash on linux was working in 194.3 with --enable-plugins. In 195.1 --enable-plugins prevents chrome from opening gmail.

There are bug in this release:
Very often [input type="checkbox"] elements viewed as blank place on different pages. Also spellcheck don't work.

Alexxoid said...

Who can confirm, that flash plugin is working on x86_64 platform? When I run google-chrome with --enable-plugins param from Debian console, I get the following errors:
[14675:14680:1897758206:ERROR:/b/slave/chrome-official-linux/build/src/base/native_library_linux.cc(19)] dlopen failed when trying to open /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flash-mozilla.so: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flash-mozilla.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

Title attribute is not showing for me as well.

Sipathamandla said...

where do i official voice my dislike of certain features introduced in this release?

Archie said...

Not sure where to voice dislike, but if you find out post it here. When I open a new tab, it automatically changes the window to that tab. It used to open the tab in the background - anyone know how to change this?

Sim said...

Confirm, title attributes is not showing.

Archie said...

Just to clarify, I mean that when you right click and select open in new tab the behaviour occurs.

Eric said...

Not sure if it was meant to be updated to do this, but right-clicking and selecting "Open in New Tab" actually brings you to the new tab afterwards.

I really hope it's just a bug and gets resolved in the next build, it's incredibly annoying when opening several new tabs in the morning from the default page and being brought to every one of them after opening them in new tabs.

bers said...

Eric: This is exactly what I was about to write, thank you :)

god said...

Archie, Eric, bers,
use middle click to open tabs in the background.

bers said...

Perfect, thank you. Question answered. Will need some time to overcome old habits, though :)

Archie said...

Thanks for the reply "god" :)
It's really annoying that's been changed - an option to choose the behaviour would be great.

Jope said...

There seems to be a change in the bahaviour of the "Open link in new tab" option: The new tab opens right next to the tab the page is opened from, and it also gets the focus...

Any way to go to the previous behaviour?

Maxim said...

Opening tabs in foreground seems to be an experiment:

http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome?view=rev&revision=20927

Hope it will be reverted in next release.

Jope said...

Tx, Maxim, I missed that.

Yes, bad experiment. The order of the tabs is also changed.

I'm surprised myself as to how much I use the feature and the previous behaviour...

Here's another vote for reversing or at least having a choice.

Archie said...

Yeh - looks like it will be reverted in the next release:

decide it's the greatest thing ever." (http://codereview.chromium.org/155671)

This is the first time Chrome on Linux has been /this/ unstable for me. It has crashed for the first time (without enabling plug-ins), when it closes, it's still in the memory and I can't restart it, and on top of that, the pinning and unpinning of tabs causes me not to be able to type in the omnibox. Heck, just starting the browser fresh causes me not to be able to type in the omnibox. I need a rollback totally.

Hey, I passed the ACID3 test with this version of Chrome : a perfect 100/100.

dmt said...

yes. this version is somehow faster.. tought there isn't any change on the chrome v8 engine. I got 4800+ on http://service.futuremark.com/peacekeeper/browserStatistics.action with i7 940 and Vista GForce 9600 GT. Keep crushing all other browsers Crhome! If ist's possible try to hide the time of reading/drawing the site just like IExlorer is doing.

Archie said...

Also, for anyone who uses google desktop. When I press ctrl, ctrl (the shortcut for bringing up the search box) the search box does not display when a chrome window is open. Once I minimise chrome, the search box displays like normal.

Wael Kdouh said...

Definitely revert back to keeping the focus on the current tab when opening a new link from within the page.

Christopher said...

Hover text is not working.
The change in tab response was not mentioned in the update notes(?)
Thanx for pointing out the middle click option.

I came out to my office this morning to find my favorite browser appeared to be broken. After some digging I figured out that it must have been updated.
Once I realized that Chrome had reverted to the stock "Fisher Price theme" I knew that it must have Auto-Updated, so I started digging through the Chrome websites. (a non-user-friendly mess of jumbled links TBH) If I understand this correctly, an auto update feature has been added. This is great... However, some notice of updating would be nice. Perhaps an option to download the latest without auto-installing would be better? At least a notice of: Congratulations Your Chrome has been auto-updated!

Is there going to be official theme support? As silly as it may sound, customization of the browser window would bring in a lot of regular users, or at the very least, it would help to not scare them away when they first try Chrome.
I am not a fan of Firefox or anything Mozilla, and there's no point in mentioning IE.(too late) I have decided to put my hopes for the future of web browsing into Chrome. As much as I hate to admit it, I feel that another theme option besides the Blue Fisher Price theme is nearly as important as the updates that have come out since I started using Chrome. There are a lot of 3rd party themes out there that people will be tempted to try, and some of them can be rather damaging to ones system.

I am very new to the Chrome dev community, so please excuse my ignorance if you think that
anything I have to say here is incorrect or ill-informed. Please correct me if I'm wrong =]

Please revert back to keeping the focus on the current tab when opening a new tab..!!! I am using a notepad and it does not have a middle click..

JJ Mac said...

Don't really like the new "open in new tab" experiment. Liked it better when it opened the new tabs but kept the focus on the tab I'm currently on. Please change back.

Pablo Almeida said...

The tabs' titles font seem smaller again. I like it this way, but did you mean that?
I didn't know about --enable-plugins.
Now I'm using it to view Flash, but it seems a little unstable on Youtube, when I scroll down the window as I watch the video.
And about Java, should be working? Cause it's not working here.
About the "Open in new tab" behavior, I didn't even notice because I always use middle mouse button (though it never worked on Orkut).

gsctt said...

This post has been removed by the author.

gsctt said...

@Pablo Almeida,
after this release, the middle click WORKS perfectly on Orkut.

joe said...

hmmm thats weird guys coz apart from opening a new tab in the foreground i don't seem to find anything wrong with this release. im using the windows dev version so the flash isnt a problem.

Akram said...

I noticed that chrome is not accepting the "remember the password" for hotmail. can anyone reply?

Gál Máté Milán said...

I've got one problem: when I open a link in a new tab the link opens but it jumps to the new tab. Fix it please.

The MAZZTer said...

HEY, you guys (Chrome dev team) broke xkcd.com! YOU CAN'T DO THAT. :O

Specifically, image title attributes no longer show as tooltips. :(

Oren David said...

PLEASE PUT BACK "new tab in background" it;s driving me crazy, I switched to chrome because of the speed and now I find my self wasting time again. I work with about 14-20 tabs open all the times. PUT IT BACK!!!

Shiroi Hane said...

Another vote for preferring the previous tab behaviour, or at least the option to choose. Also missing the image alt text on XKCD.

Fork and Beard said...

Another vote for reverting back to the old: open in new tab - no focus - behaviour.

Tyris said...

Please please revert to no focus for new tabs!
Simply: add it as an option; I'm sure there are those who like the new behavior, but not so for many of us.
It also breaks google reader; which now focuses on the new tab regardless of how you click it.

Mohamed Mansour said...

Opening links in background has been reverted to be as the old behavior (open links in foreground)

roberto.bernardini said...

An option to choose whether to open new tab in background or in foreground is absolutely needed.

@god: middle click / Ctrl+click works only if YOU want to open a new tab; I would like that external windows (i.e. links with target="_blank") don't grab my focus.
