Stable Update: Google Chrome 2.0.172.28

Labels:

We're promoting 2.0.172 from Beta to the Stable channel today.

We've made a lot of changes to stuff you never see, such as a newer version of WebKit for rendering web pages, a new network stack, and improvements to speed up the V8 Javascript engine.

There are some new features like removing Most Visited sites from the New Tab page, form autofill, and full screen mode.

We're also proud to announce that Google Chrome is now available in 50 languages. We added Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya (on Windows Vista only), Tamil, and Telugu in this release.

You can read more about it here.

Hi

Now, hopefully the bugs related to unbeforeunload can be fixed as well.

see:
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=4422

I have several web application customers that wants to use Chrome but cannot because of the bug above.

The bug above is in Chrome and Safari browsers.

It is a real shame this is not working... mostly because in the web apps I'm talking about the Chrome browser outperforms both FF and IE by a large margin when it comes to javascript speed.

Time to fix the onbeforeunload related bugs!!!!

Nice work. So does this mean that the next dev build will be marked 3.0?

The next dev build will be marked 2.1 and then 3.0.

I'm waiting for 3.0 Dev!!!

There's still the problem that you can't remove a single thumbnail if you have less that 4 thumbnails in total. Regardless which one you click it removes all of them.

In a nutshell, the remove thumbnail feature only works when you have 4 or more thumbnails.

Version for Linux and Mac? June? July?

Good work!

Anyway, please bring "Zoom" (Text Only) option back to me.

I am also only waiting for a Linux release and proper extension support. Keep up your great work, Chrome as a browser is excellent and fast!

Thanks for adding support for Tamil and other Indic languages.

Excitement!

There were enough small bugs that I was hesitant to refer people to chrome. The 2.0.x.x dev releases fixed most of them, but I didn't want to send anyone to buggy betas.

I downloaded the new version and everything that wasn't working before is all better! I'm happy.

Great, I love it, but still two major bugs remain for me (Windows XP SP3):

- it is impossible on an installation level to choose DIFFERENT partition to install, than the default C (it really does suck big time, when you have a limited space, and are installing programs on different locations)

- after update, files of the old version remain in the local settings (aprox 50MB). I guess that it's happening because of some security/stability reasons (abillity to come back to an older version), but I'd prefer it would not be doing so

- well, in connection with the first one - ok, it can be installed on C, I can live withit, but guys, give us at least an option to choose where temporary files will be stored (different partition), so we will be not throwing all that small files on C

Keep up the good work, but give your users more configuration options. In my default browser (Chrome is a secondary one), Opera, I can easily modify location of important files.

There is a problem with scroll-bars in Google Chrome 2.0 and higher

Well done folks!

Just one comment: the new zoom in zoom out engine (render one) treat the fonts in a strange manner. In fact readable ones with the Chrome1 (at any zoom) becomes unreadable, or at least dirty, with the Chrome2. By the way... GOOD for the zoom in pics.

Any way I love Google an I a Chorme fan (a converted one, the more dangerous ;-)

Few problems already occur today.
Here is why I un-installed Chrome.

Pros:
Yes from the first time I used this browser 5 or 6 months ago, it did added on more features to make it more user friendly and improved the speed.

Cons:
Through only this morning's testimony I have found quite a few things I would hope to see improvements in the future.
1. Stability: Only doing my normal morning routine (opening up news in separate taps through Google news and Canada) and posting news on Facebook. It crashed, TWICE. Note: only 6 or 7 taps were opened for the news and Facebook was opened in another window. Had to force close (slow too) no crash log was entered (could not complaint).

2. Cannot recover those web pages that was crashed (Google news refreshes very often, some news are harder to dig back)

3. History? Don't mention it, it doesn't even work when trying to recover those pages I lost.

4. When trying to find a way to complaint about it on Google's page, NOT easily found. If this is only a 8 months product, the voice of tester is very crucial for improvement.

5. When viewing my UBC WebCT Vista page, the side bar disappears?! Something was wrong when incorporating Java

6. It does not recognize IE 8? asks me to download IE 7 for viewing MSN video. (ridiculous)

7. Lack of add-ons that is available through Maxthon 2. Why doesn't Google just buy Maxthon I wonder.

Hopefully, this helps because I really am anticipating a better web browser with similar functions that Maxthon provides.

--single-process doesn't work
--enable-user-scripts doesn't work
--proxy-server-pac-url doesn't work
file:// type PAC file path doesn't work

I am confused. What's supposed to work in this Chrome. What's not implemented yet or a bug?

Guest said...

Sorry, --enable-user-scripts seems no problem.

v2 works with Windows 7 without additional launch options, this is something it would be nice to see mentioned in the release notes.

I have gone to Tool /Options / Minor Tweak / Offer to save passwords, then when I go to Show saved passwords the URL I want isn't there and I have it on the start page as one of the Thumbnails. The problem is that I can't get the Offer to save passwords to show or I don't know where to look and the URL I want isn't there, How do I add this. ??

Im on the latest stable version, however im having some issues with focus. Sometimes when I start chrome, the window appears, but the title bar is grayed out, as if its out of focus, but it becomes the normal blue (on XP) when i click in the window. NOthing serious, but it is annoying and wasnt in the last stable version.

this version have some random crashes...

May I ask why about:network doesn't work anymore?

Atique said...

Yes. This version has some problems with Javascript. My Yahoo Mail and gmail doesn't display most of the times. I don't know why. Youtube also not working.. I'm waiting for next stable release.

I really enjoy Chrome. The thing I like most is it's ability to store files within, not in the registry. Making it a much more appealing device to browse with. Waiting for weather and other addons now??

Great job folks!!

Hi,

This version, and also all the previous, have an issue when using Chrome behind a proxy.

When I open it I have to type the proxy login a lot of times, because chrome ask for it randomly...
Sometimes I just type once, then cancel the other prompts and use it, but this is really annoying...

In Opera I just type in one tab, and the others, that are open on startup, works well...

Hope you can fix this on next release...

Regards
